If you have come to listen to some Serbian music - you have come to the right place. Embedded below is a widgety-thing, on which you can sample some of Boban's trumpet-fuelled grooves. It becomes quite infectious after a while, I can assure you. I plan to do some research into other types of Serbian music as well, to help you sample just a little more of the culture surrounding Obreht's short story. You can also discover more about the remarkable Boban Markovic on Wikipedia and his MySpace page.
I have also included a link to Tea Obreht's short story The Laugh here. It is quite compelling and disturbing. It is also a little confusing, so bear with it. It is set in East Africa and explores the conflict between two men in the African Savannah - a place where conflict and bloodshed is ever present and which serves to amplify the tension between the two men.
Enjoy broadening your horizons - or just forget about this and watch kittens fall off logs on YouTube instead!
Happy reading/listening!
Mr K.
